Home Up Spreader Mod

The tripod itself could use one small fix, the castings where the legs attach should be shimmed with a thin soft metal washer to remove sideward play.

This is a close-up of the  washers I elected to use.

They are brass flat washers.

0.250" I.D.

0.040" Thick

0.560" O.D.

The only important dimensions are the thickness (most important) and the ID (not quit as critical)  You could use two 0.020" thick washers per leg to center it more evenly, but in use I have not had any problems.

When you place the washers in the leg attachment castings, make sure to place them on the same side of each leg.  The slight offset is not a problem as long as the offset is the same way on each leg. As mentioned above you could halve the thickness and use two washers per leg.

This stiffened up the tripod considerably and the spreader bolt modification finished the job.

For photography you might want to brace the wedge.
