The SynScan controller as of Ver 3.x is user flash programmable. Any controller that shows a version of 2.xx on power up is not flash programmable and will have to be replaced in order to update it. The flashable controller can usually be identified without turning it on by the SynScan on the face being printed in gold. It is not recommended that you use a USB to Serial adapter to do the update.
