I don't know about anyone else, but I have on a number of occasions put my finger on the ENTER button instead of WEST and not getting a response pushed it one or more times, killing the alignment I struggled to get perfect!!

What I did was to bend a piece of Aluminum TIG rod to fit the face of the Magellan II box and fasten it into place using black silicone sealer.

This gives me a positive barrier between the N S E & W keys and the deadly ENTER and MODE keys above.  In the dark you instantly know where you are.

Not wanting to drill holes in the Magellan II (I have no problems with holes in the Wedge, Mounting or Tripod) I used the sticky backed Velcro to hold this hook made from 1/16" aluminum sheet stock.

The whole thing is kept in a GameBoy pouch that is padded and has a Velcro flap closure.

Here is the new Magellan II mount that I recently made.  The bracket has a pivot in the middle of it to allow the user to swing the Magellan to the left or the right for ease of viewing.  The unit is attached with Velcro for easy removal if needed and the knob adjusts the tension of the pivot so the unit will not swing when the keys are pressed.  The handset screen is easily viewed from any eyepiece position.

I black anodized all the aluminum brackets myself.

Note in this close view how the computer serial cable and the handset cable have been spiraled together to neaten the installation and cut down on the number of cables to get hung up on in the dark.  the handset cable is a heavy duty 25' coiled cable and the data cable is a double shielded 4 wire home made RS232.  Note the routing of these cables in the picture above and to the left.
